The scarcest resource in the energy system is human attention.

Millions of solar systems, batteries and EVs multiply complexity. Energy market participants need new systems, processes and values that carry it, so people can focus on what matters.

The problem

01 Energy markets are a system of systems that was never designed as a whole. It grew one layer at a time.

02 Over the past decades, to make it deliver, we've turned it into a geospatial robot: a machine that senses, decides and acts across an entire region, largely on its own. It exists so people don't have to watch every part. The jobs it does are well understood.

03 What's new is scale. The same jobs now have to be done for millions of participants, not thousands, at the same cost. That needs new systems, and the whole system designed to work together.

How we work

Start from the outcome, not a product.

We recommend what fits, including other people's technology. Our own tools come in only where they're the best answer.

Design the whole system.

An outcome depends on people, process, culture, contracts, data, systems and infrastructure. Technology alone rarely delivers it.

Done means the outcome lasts.

A system succeeds when it keeps delivering through time and change, not when it goes live.

Holonic: a holon is whole in itself and part of something larger. Systems built that way can absorb change without breaking.

We design systems and the architecture to deliver them.

Systems: market and trading arrangements, operating models, contracts, data, and which technology to use.

Delivery: partners, sequencing, pilots, handover, and how success is measured over time.

In practice

Energy communities, UK. A white-label energy community platform for an energy community operator, built by Resilient Labs and live in the UK.

Where this comes from

Holonic was founded by Kaspar Kaarlep, after over a decade of putting these ideas into practice:

Elektrilevi, Estonia. As CTO and board member, smart meter and data programmes at national scale, showing what becomes possible when every site is visible.

WePower. As co-founder and CTO, Australia's first fully digitised, tokenised power purchase agreement, commercialised with the Robinvale solar plant in 2020.

Complexity is where the value is.

Most people try to avoid it. If you'd rather find what's in it, and you're working toward a decentralised energy system, let's talk.
